A Co-sleeping Prayer

My dear Jesus, you who sit at the right hand of the Father, to you I come through the intercession of your Blessed Virgin Mother.

You who are glorified in all eternity, the almighty Logos, humbled yourself so much that in your blessed Incarnation you chose to come to us as a babe in a manger.

I praise you and thank you for the gift of new life, the child you have entrusted me with, to love and educate.

I now humbly ask that you would keep him safe as we go to bed, in our sleeping and in our waking. May we create an environment so that he may rest far from harm’s way.

May he be far from any pillows, clothing, blankets or anything which may impede his breathing or make him too warm.

May we, his parents, be sober and alert to his every cry and may his cries be only those of hunger and never pain.

May we never be quick to get up or lay down without first checking where he is. May we never toss or turn where he may be.

My Lord, protect his head, his little arms and hands, his body, his legs and feet. Protect him from the tips of the hair on his head to the end of his toes

May our sleeping together be, rather, a joyful and prayerful time. A time of love and nurture, of rest, of skin touching skin and healthy growth of mind and body.

As the holy family must have laid down to rest together, as families throughout the ages and in all cultures have done, may we too lay down, confident in the caution we have taken and in the mercy of God Almighty.

Blessed Mother and Most Holy St. Joseph intercede for us , may we learn from you everyday how to serve and honour the Lord.

This I pray through Jesus Christ our Lord

Lord Jesus Christ, son of God have mercy on me, a sinner!

O Most Holy Theotokos, save us!
